Sounds Good

Well, I finally got the proper sounds installed on Thursday after a replacement Bela Mini arrived and Tom programmed it as before. This time it didn’t go pear-shaped, but worked like a dream.

My university friend Liv came to visit the show, now that it was finally as I had intended it.

On Friday evening, I had a Private View Mark II for my local friends Frances, Michael and Jane, and my uni friend Sally-Ann.

Everyone agreed that the sculptures sounded more characterful and assertive with their real voices.

And then, very quickly, it was Saturday – de-installation day. At least the voices got heard for 3 days, and I managed to take some video of the exhibition in its intended set-up.

I had some delightful visitors just as I was starting the de-install – my old friends Chloe and Juliet and their parents! Chloe and Juliet helped me on many occasions last year during my residency, by making cardboard snakes for the installation.

The gallery looked very empty when everything was either put back into my studio or into the boot of the car.

Curious Body (aka Big Beast) had an appointment around the corner.

He went to call on his friend Frances, who is going to adopt him.

And it turns out he’s a she! And she is yet to be named, but has a new home in Frances’s room.

Next stop was Chloe and Juliet’s house, where two other sculptures are taking up residence.

Juliet and Swatchling are about the same size

The girls and I spent a happy hour drawing portraits of each other in the sunny garden.

Just to remind you of what I looked like a year ago…

Younger for sure, but still wearing the yellow dungarees!

  1. I think Chloe & Juliet are going to need some space in the Courtyard Arts gallery themselves one day very soon! Bx

Fascinating, Susie. So glad you were able to get the sounds working. Wish I’d been able to get over to see the exhibition before it came down x

  3. Hi Anna. Firstly I have to say how amazing the solo exhibition looked (and sounded) at courtyard. I was unable to attend as I am in Italy. I loved the otherworldly atmosphere that your sculptures created. I always love your work and was gutted I couldn’t get to see it but look forward to the next project, keep at it, it’s amazing. Xx
